Vanuatu Beer Among the Best in the World

Vanuatu Tusker Premium has won a gold medal and a trophy for Vanuatu Brewery Limited, at the New Zealand Beer Cup in 2003 in Nelson. It is the second award for VBL this year, adding to the bronze medal won earlier at Ballarat, Australia.

This week Mr. David Hudson, president of the Rotary Club of Port Vila, congratulated Rotarian Mr. Lennart Tusker, Master Brewer for VBL, on the company's achievement.

VBL enters the two international competitions for wine and beer held every year in the South Pacific. There are different groups in the competitions depending on the type of beer; for example, draught or bottled/canned beer. There are several sections as well, for example, International, Australia and New Zealand. The judging panel must include at least 40 percent international judges. The others can come from breweries in New Zealand (30%) and Australia (30%).

After Vanuatu became an independent country, VBL entered the International section for class 3 premium lager beer. This is the hardest competition of all classes because it is open to lager beer from every country in the world. Internationally, the consumption of lager beer accounts for more than 60 percent of all beer sold. Vanuatu Premium Lager has now earned the distinction of being named the best in this class.

Master Brewer for VBL, Mr. Lennart Saetmark, has been an international judge at the New Zealand International Beer Awards for several years, and has much experience in judging numerous beers from around the world. "Vanuatu must be proud of having a brewery that can brew a gold-medal quality premium lager ahead of major breweries from around the world," Mr. Saetmark said.

Previous awards for TBL have included four silver medals and 14 bronze medals for Tusker Premium, Vanuatu Bitter, Southern Cross Stout and Tusker Ice.

Delerium Tremens was rated the #1 beer in the world by Beer.com.
Since taste buds vary and taste is often an acquired condition, there are many bests. The worst beers Worldwide are from:
Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., Miller, Coors.

My personals:
Andechs Special Light from the Monastery at Andechs, Germany.
Paulaner Salvator [Germany]
Kirin [Japan]
Estrella del Sur [Spain]
Corona [Mexico]
The best is midas touch, a honey based beer that the recipe was reconstucted from pots found in the tomb of midas himself. Very good beer you'll like it
My favorite is Guiness
local Black Knight o.k
kingfisher
My homebrew IPA
It really depends on the style of bear you like.

I prefer Ales especially IPAs and Irish Reds

Avoid ANY mass produced American beer (Budweiser,Miller Etc..)

According to RateBeer.com:
1 N?rke Kaggen Stormaktsporter
2 Westvleteren Abt 12
3 Surly Darkness
4 Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout
5 Three Floyds Oak Aged Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout
6 AleSmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout
7 Rochefort Trappistes 10
8 AleSmith Speedway Stout
9 Mikkeller X Imperial Stout
10 Bells Expedition Stout

According to BeerAdvocate.com:
1 Trappist Westvleteren 12
2 Dark Lord Imperial Stout
3 Trappist Westvleteren 8
4 Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout
5 Pliny The Younger
6 Stone Imperial Russian Stout
7 Trappistes Rochefort 10
8 Dreadnaught IPA
9 AleSmith Speedway Stout
10 Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock

More importantly, however, is the matter of which styles you prefer and what you are in the mood for. If you want something hoppy, go with an IPA. If you want something dark, go with a stout. There are many styles out there and all have something wonderful to offer the drinker.

Also, as far as some of the answers on this page: statistically, people are unable to tell cheap lager beers apart in blind tastings... even when people claim that one is their absolute favorite. This includes Coors, Miller, Bud, Corona, etc and all their light and "premium" versions. If it's your preference, then by all means, bottoms up... but think about whether one is really different from the others.

EDIT:
Seriously? Beer is not "SO" bad for you. It has some empty calories, but with regular exercise this is no problem. Alcohol can do damage to your liver over time, but this is not typically a problem for moderate drinkers. Liver damage is typically seen in people who tend to binge (as in get drunk, not buzzed). Also, beer contains only natural ingredients (real beer, anyway). High fructose corn syrup, aspartame, and partially hydrogenated oils are the real health threats. I'd rather cut out soda, do some exercise, and upgrade to whole wheat... I'll live longer, and I can still have my beer! Call me crazy.

SECOND EDIT:
Unless you're underage... then, yeah... you should probably not drink it... for the time being.
NONE BEER IS SO BAD I WOULD NEVER DRINK IT IT IS VERY BAD FOR YOU!YOU WOULD BE CRAZY TO DRINK THAT STUFF!!!!!!!
